8 February 2024

Mexico City, 15 February 2024 – Lorena Vieyra, an established Mexican architect and Founder and Creative Director of OMET, introduces the latest series from her groundbreaking design collective OMET at Maison Diez Company, within Mexico City Art Week 2024. Featuring the finest creative talents from across Latin America, these one-of-a-kind designs beautifully showcase the meticulous artistry and craftsmanship of some of the best designers in Mexico.
For OMET's second collection, Vieyra has once again brought together some of the most renowned creatives from Latin America, with all pieces being handmade in Mexico. The ten selected talents were catalysts for the exploration and design of pieces imbued with an artisanal soul, resulting in a collection that showcases over 15 unique pieces, across furniture and accessories. This new collection features works by acclaimed designers such as Argentinian Daniel Germani, and Mexicans Tatiana Bilbao, Michel Rojkind, Raúl de la Cerda, Marisol Centeno, Rodrigo Fernández, Yuri Zagorin, Simón Hamui, and Lorena Vieyra herself.

Diverse materials take center stage across the different design proposals. Vieyra explains: "Even though it's a collection that naturally reflects the individual vision of each designer, the pronounced emphasis on materials expressing themselves is evident. The significance of materiality cannot be overstated, embodying boldness, a sense of weight, and decisiveness in the pieces. This extends beyond the literal weight to encompass the craftsmanship and the fine details, even in the case of pieces that are substantial and impactful."
The collection preserves an organic essence, enhanced by the interplay of materiality and the juxtaposition of geometric, yet restrained lines, in each object. Sourcing inspiration from Mesoamerican elements, the collective introduces pieces that embody a modern, bold aesthetic, while capturing the vibrant essence of Latin American culture. "There is a highly significant expressive aspect within the abstraction of the pieces. Throughout the entire design narrative, this intriguing geometric reflection serves as a guiding thread throughout the collection," adds Vieyra.

Volcanic stone, initially chosen for its pre-Columbian cultural significance, is now reimagined using different techniques and forms. Tezontle, another variant of volcanic stone, and glazed stones were also selected for their robustness and distinctive color variations. Creatives explored metalwork, using brass and stainless steel to craft captivating shapes; each piece reflecting artisan's unique handcraft. Wood, with varied textures and types, was approached from diverse perspectives. Ceramics and textiles emerged as additional mediums, providing creative possibilities while preserving a traditional essence in each creation.
“I believe we have already gone through a process of establishing OMET, and this second step is meant to achieve recognition of the brand as a benchmark for collectible Latin American design, while boosting regional talent to an international level. This is extremely important to me, and fortunately, I have had the great opportunity to collaborate with great Latin American creatives, which speaks volumes about OMET.” concluded Lorena Vieyra.
Visitors and design enthusiasts will be able to interact with some of the creatives at Centro Citibanamex in Mexico City, starting on February 8th until the 18th.
Vieyra debuted OMET in 2023, with showings at international design fairs such as NYCxDESIGN, and opened a permanent showroom in Austin, Texas.
